Working It Out

The Senior Classes attended the “Working It Out” event at Rosnakill Resource Centre on 23rd May. The event was organised by Patricia from Junior Achievement Ireland.

Junior Achievement work with local companies in an aim of giving back to the local community. In this case, they have teamed up with Marine Harvest Ireland. Volunteers from Marine Harvest Ireland are trained to work with children .

The Working It Out event was a sports event in a circuit format with all scores recorded and mathematically worked out. Senior classes from all of the local schools attended the event – Ballyheerin NS, Drumfad NS, Kerrykeel NS, Doaghbeg NS, Croaghross NS, Tamney NS & Cashel NS. The children really enjoyed the event, especially getting to know children from the other local schools.

Donegal Donkey Sanctuary

Our children, along with the children from Drumfad NS, visited the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary in Raphoe on Monday 22nd May. We had a tour around the Donkey Sanctuary and saw the donkeys in the fields and more of them in the stables. We were so excited to see the new foal Hope ! We were also delighted to see Timmy the Donkey, as Drumfad NS have sponsored Timmy.

The Donkey Sanctuary is doing great work caring for the Donkeys. They currently have 75 Donkeys at the Sanctuary. We enjoyed hearing the different stories and hearing the different names for the Donkeys.

We wish the Donkey Sanctuary all the best and we thank them for a very informative visit .

The Ingenious Ulster Science Show

The Senior classes from our school were invited by Drumfad NS to join them on a trip to the Raphoe Royal and Prior Secondary school to attend “The Ingenious Ulster Science Show”. The show was based on inventors from Ulster from 1660 to the present day. Some of the inventors included Hans Sloane, Joesph Black & Harry Ferguson. It may have ignited an interest in science in the minds of the children !

The children really enjoyed the Science Show and learned so much! They also really enjoyed visiting the secondary school and the yummy cookies & juice provided by the school.

The children enjoyed getting to know the children from Drumfad NS and look forward to the next time they can go on a trip together !

First Holy Communion

The First Holy Communion took place this year in Fanavolty Chapel on Saturday 13th May at 12pm. 16 children from all of the local schools in Fanad made their First Holy Communion on the day. Congratulations to Aoibhinn who made her First Holy Communion and also who read the Prayer before Communion so well on the day. Mass was celebrated by Fr Pat McGarvey and tea was provided in Fanavolty Hall by local parishioners . Thank you to MĂșinteoir GrĂĄinne for preparing Aoibhinn for her special day. Thank you to all who helped out to make it such a lovely event for everyone.

Swimming Lessons

All of the children started their Swimming lessons in Carrigart on Friday April 28th. The swimming lessons last for one hour with a qualified Swim Instructor. The children will attend for 8 lessons. Lessons and bus are heavily subsidised by the school, therefore children must only pay €5 per lesson. Swimming tests take place on Friday 9th June. Certificates will be given out on Friday 16th June.

Ballyheerin Spring Clean-Up

We had our annual Ballyheerin Spring Clean up on Wednesday 26th April. All of the children and adults wore high-vis jackets and garden gloves. We headed off in a few separate groups around the roads of Ballyheerin and filled over 12 bags of rubbish. We found that the roads were much cleaner than other years. We hope next year to move our clean-up to new roads around Ballyheerin! Thanks to everyone who helped out ! Let’s keep Ballyheerin tidy !
