We are delighted to be using the class dojo platform to communicate with parents and to acknowledge the great work that our pupils and teachers are doing in our school. One of the highlights so far this year was recording the poems and songs which we learned for OĂche Shamhna. The Senior Class even made a spooky halloween movie and learnt a spooky dance! All of our families are now connected with us via Class Dojo and each child has their very own e-portfolio which documents their learning. Class dojo offers a two way street in regards to communication so our parents can keep in touch with us too. They can keep up with what is going on in our school, in a safe and interactive way, throughout this school year.

We would like to thank everyone who joined us or give a donation towards our coffee morning. A very special thanks to all the parents and children who helped out on the day and to all the families who baked and brought in tasty treats for the occasion. It was a very fun day for the staff and pupils of Ballyheerin NS (we got to wear yellow:-)) and all proceeds collected will go directly to the Niamh Toland Rehabilitation fund!
Thank you all so much for your support!
Cross Country Athletics
Children from Ballyheerin NS travelled to Milford AC to take part in the Inter-schools Cross Country Athletics competition. Five children from our senior class and three children from our Junior class took part. All of the children did fantastic in their individual races. We were proud of them all. We were really delighted when Shane finished in a medal position in the U11 – 1000 metres race. Congratulations Shane ! Maith thĂș!
Thank you to parents Patrick and Lorraine for travelling with and supporting the children at the competition.
Dental Health Talk
Ann, our Dental Health nurse visited the school in September to talk to all of the children about dental health. She explained the different types of teeth we have and discussed what we use them for, with lots of questions from the children!
Ann, then showed us how to brush our teeth properly…beginning at the side of our lower back teeth and moving right around to the other side of the mouth. Then, brushing all along the bite from the lower back right around to the other side. Then , moving to the inside of the lower teeth and brushing around again.
Then, doing all of the same on the upper teeth. Total time, around two minutes.
The children enjoyed the lesson on Dental health and feel more confident about minding their teeth now.

Working It Out
The Senior Classes attended the “Working It Out” event at Rosnakill Resource Centre on 23rd May. The event was organised by Patricia from Junior Achievement Ireland.
Junior Achievement work with local companies in an aim of giving back to the local community. In this case, they have teamed up with Marine Harvest Ireland. Volunteers from Marine Harvest Ireland are trained to work with children .
The Working It Out event was a sports event in a circuit format with all scores recorded and mathematically worked out. Senior classes from all of the local schools attended the event – Ballyheerin NS, Drumfad NS, Kerrykeel NS, Doaghbeg NS, Croaghross NS, Tamney NS & Cashel NS. The children really enjoyed the event, especially getting to know children from the other local schools.
Donegal Donkey Sanctuary
Our children, along with the children from Drumfad NS, visited the Donegal Donkey Sanctuary in Raphoe on Monday 22nd May. We had a tour around the Donkey Sanctuary and saw the donkeys in the fields and more of them in the stables. We were so excited to see the new foal Hope ! We were also delighted to see Timmy the Donkey, as Drumfad NS have sponsored Timmy.
The Donkey Sanctuary is doing great work caring for the Donkeys. They currently have 75 Donkeys at the Sanctuary. We enjoyed hearing the different stories and hearing the different names for the Donkeys.
We wish the Donkey Sanctuary all the best and we thank them for a very informative visit .
