Arts & Drama

Our Arts and Drama Initiative encourages creativity, confidence, and self-expression through a wide range of artistic and performance-based activities. Pupils are given opportunities to explore drama, visual arts, and storytelling in a fun and supportive environment.

At Ballyheerin National School, we believe that the arts play a vital role in every child’s development and encourages them to develop their own voices.

We provide the children with the opportunity to play the tin whistle, fiddle and piano or to sing as part of a choir.

The children love preforming for parents, grandparents and our local community. We are very proud of our Halloween and Christmas Shows under the guidance of our Creative Director Múinteoir Grainne.

What We Do

Our Arts and Drama Initiative includes a variety of engaging activities such as:

  • Drama workshops and role-play exercises

  • School plays and performances

  • Creative storytelling and improvisation

  • Art projects linked to themes and events

  • Music and movement activities

These experiences allow pupils to develop key skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, and self-confidence, while also nurturing a love for the arts.

Benefits for Pupils

Participation in arts and drama helps children to:

Build confidence in speaking and performing

Develop creativity and imagination

Improve communication and social skills

Work collaboratively with others

Express thoughts and emotions in a positive way

Drama, in particular, supports both emotional and intellectual development, encouraging pupils to reflect, empathise, and engage with different perspectives

Our Aim

Our aim is to create a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels inspired to take part, explore their talents, and enjoy the creative process. We strive to ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to experience the joy of performance and artistic expression.
