On Friday the 11th of December, the staff and pupils of Ballyheerin National school wore their Christmas jumpers. We are proud to gave all donations collected to the children’s hospital in Crumlin. We are thinking of all the children in hospital and their families at this very special time of year.
Halloween is always one of the highlights of our year in Ballyheerin NS. The staff of Ballyheerin NS were absolutely delighted to welcome the children of Ballyheerin NS back to school after a long time apart! We are delighted to re-united with our pupils and we would like to gave an especially warm fáilte to Sophie and Natasha, our two new junior infants!
Our school community have been hard at work, from home. Spring is a busy time on our farms so the teachers of Ballyheerin National school are delighted and the children were able to juggle their school-work and all their farming jobs. There were alot of interesting and famous faces in our school yesterday. The children and staff dressed up as characters from their favourite books 📚. All the children presented their favourite book to the whole school. The children even went book ‘speed dating’ where they had 3min to tell their ‘book date’ all about their favourite book before moving on to their next book
What a fantastic day we had today!🌹The children got to wear their jersey or tracksuits and were challenged to stay active for the whole day. We played games, we had races, we learned a new dance and we even went for a lovely walk. The children in the senior class made special Valentine’s buns for all which we really appreciated after all that activity.
The pupils of Ballyheerin NS are practicing yoga and meditation this term. Our school purchased new yoga mats in January and both the junior and senior class enjoy regular yoga and meditation sessions throughout the week. Both the Senior and Junior Class have learned and mastered many different yoga poses in the past few weeks and both classes have enjoyed the benefits of quiet
Spring has sprung in Ballyheerin! We thank Múinteoir Gráinne for bringing in rushes for us all last Friday. Every child had the chance to make a lovely green cross for St. Brigid’s Day. We also thank the pupils in the senior class who helped the junior class to complete their crosses. ☘️
Ballyheerin NS recently welcomed Steffi Otto to our school. Steffi taught the children about traditional crafts such as rope-making and basket weaving. She also introduced the children to many toys and games of the past. Thanks to Steffi, we got to see rushes being used in many interesting ways. We also made our own fabulous skipping ropes for the yard 😊
Our junior and senior pupils have enjoyed learning to play chess in recent weeks. It is a game which is known to improve the social, cognitive and mental fitness of it’s players.
