Ádh mór

The staff and pupils of Ballyheerin NS would like to wish our former sixth class pupils: Michael, Kerri, Emily, Caoimhe and RoisĂn the very best of luck in their new schools. Here is a little video that we put together earlier this year for our virtual graduation. We will miss this year group alot but we are excited for them and this next chapter in their lives. We are thankful to MĂșinteoir GrĂĄinne for making a lovely collage and to MĂșinteoir Roisin for making a wonderful video for their graduation earlier this year.

The senior class enjoyed front row seats at an exhibition of Ice age mammals recently which included the Irish elk, Irish wolf and even a mammoth! The lifesize re-enactments of the animals were fantastic and we able to answer all the questions we were asked! We even got to hold a real mammoth tooth!

Ballyheerin NS Exhibition at the Fanad Lighthouse

Ballyheerin school is delighted to be hosting our own Exhibition at the Fanad Lighthouse on Tuesday 7th March 11am – 12:30pm.

The whole community of “In between the waters” are invited along, as well as parents, families and neighbours.

Firstly, we will have a grounds tour of the Lighthouse, leaving the ticket office at 11am approx. Then, some of the children will present their artwork which will be on display.  The Artwork will include the Wall Piece which the children created inspired by the Fanad Peninsula, as well as project-work completed by the children and their families based also on Fanad .

This will be followed by the children playing a few tunes on their tin whistles and singing a few songs. The Senior Class children will also get a tour of the tower.

We do hope that it will be a lovely event for everyone – children, staff, parents and neighbours. We also hope that everyone will join in with the song “Mulroy Bay”. We are looking forward to seeing you all there.

The Famine

We had great fun re-enacting the Famine drama with Patsy Kavanagh . The children learned so much about what it was like to live during the time of the Famine in Ireland in the 1840s. Thanks to Patsy for the lovely ballad singing as well !
