New School Jerseys

We are so excited to have our new school jerseys. We are also delighted that they have been sponsored by a very local business Ballyheerin Stud Farm.

The children designed the jerseys and they were all so excited to try them on…and then to wear them to our first ever Seven-a-side soccer competition in Ballyare.

The Senior class travelled to Ballyare and took part in the seven-a-side blitz. They played four games – winning one, drawing two and loosing one. We were delighted with their performance and very proud of all of the children.

Thank you so much to the parents who travelled with us to coach and support our children. We all had a fantastic day.

Thank you so much again to Ballyheerin Stud Farm for sponsoring our very professional jerseys.

Halloween Show & School Service

Well done to all of the children on their lovely Halloween show.

The Junior class performed a selection of Halloween songs and poems.

The Senior class performed their very first Dráma i Gaeilge “Cochaillín Dearg”!

Thank you so much to Fr Pat McGarvey and to Rev David Griscome for the lovely school service which took place before the show, and to the parents who helped to provide refreshments afterwards. Go raibh maith agaibh uilig.

Storm Ophelia

The first hurricane on record to reach this far north in the Atlantic arrived in Ireland on Monday 16th Oct 2017. It had become an Extra-Tropical Storm when it reached our shores, but still carried hurricane force winds. It arrived in the South of the country and made its way up the country throughout the day.

By Monday evening, the storm had arrived in Donegal. The winds blew strong throughout the night. It was quiet again on Tuesday morning. Lots of trees were knocked down and there was damage to buildings through the country. Luckily , there was little damage in Fanad.

The Dept of Education instructed all schools to close on Monday 16th Oct and to remain closed on Tuesday 17th Oct in order for councils to clear roads and ensure safety for schools.

We all learned so much from Hurricane Ophelia.

Cross Country Athletics

Children from Ballyheerin NS travelled to Milford AC to take part in the Inter-schools Cross Country Athletics competition. Five children from our senior class and three children from our Junior class took part. All of the children did fantastic in their individual races. We were proud of them all. We were really delighted when Shane finished in a medal position in the U11 – 1000 metres race. Congratulations Shane ! Maith thú!

Thank you to parents Patrick and Lorraine for travelling with and supporting the children at the competition.

Dental Health Talk

Ann, our Dental Health nurse visited the school in September to talk to all of the children about dental health. She explained the different types of teeth we have and discussed what we use them for, with lots of questions from the children!

Ann, then showed us how to brush our teeth properly…beginning at the side of our lower back teeth and moving right around to the other side of the mouth. Then, brushing all along the bite from the lower back right around to the other side. Then , moving to the inside of the lower teeth and brushing around again.

Then, doing all of the same on the upper teeth. Total time, around two minutes.

The children enjoyed the lesson on Dental health and feel more confident about minding their teeth now.

HB Fun Day

Bhí am ar dóigh ar fad againn ag an HB Fun Day i Scoil Mhuire Caiseal ar an Aoine. D’ith muid uachar reoite agus glóthach, cacaí agus brioscaí ! Cheannaigh muid leabhair agus breagáin! D’imir muid peil agus bhí muid ag léimní ar preabchaisleáin ! Ach, an rud is fearr faoin lá ná go bhfuair muid uilig seans súgradh le páistí ó na scoileanna eile i gceantar Fhánada. Go raibh míle maith agaibh Scoil Mhuire Caiseal don chuireadh chuig an HB Fun Day. Tá súil againn go mbeidh sé ar siúl arais an bhlian seo chugainn.
