Science Workshop

The whole school travelled to Drumfad NS to attend a Science Workshop. The children really enjoyed the day – learning lots of new things from the Scientist and also playing with each other at lunchtime! Thank you to Drumfad NS for inviting us to join them at their Science Workshop.

Junior Achievment

Volunteers from Marine Harvest visited our Junior classroom a few times to teach lessons on Our Community. The children really enjoyed having local people coming in to the classroom and talking to them about the community. Thank you so much to the volunteers, to Marine Harvest for funding it and to Junior Achievement Ireland for organising it.

Peace IV Project

The children from Ballyheerin NS and from Drumfad NS have worked together on the Léargas funded Peace IV project – promoting good relationships between Catholic and Protestant schools in the border counties.

The theme of the project was Fanad. The children looked at the Geography, History, Nature, Music and Art of the area together. They went on field trips to visit places of interest in Fanad.

In June, the children jointly presented their projects to both school communities at Fanavolty hall. We were all so impressed by the work that was carried out and by all the learning that took place over the few months.

Thank you to Múinteoir Treasa and to Ms. Nairn for all their work on the projects. Thank you to the parents for supporting the project and for providing refreshments at the presentation day.

Congratulations to all of the children who participated.

Both schools had a celebration day together – we all went to visit Doe Castle and then to Ards forest park. Friendships have been formed.

Class Swap!

From January 2018 onwards, Múinteoir Aoife is the new Junior class teacher and Múinteoir Treasa is the new Senior class teacher.

It will remain like this until Múinteoir Gráinne returns next year.

We welcome Múinteoir Treasa Ní Cholla to our school. We hope she has a pleasant and enjoyable time teaching and learning with us.

Christmas Service

Our Christmas Service took place in Leatbeg Church of Ireland church again this year.

Our whole school community really enjoy this service every year, and did again this year.

Thanks so much to Rev David Griscome for hosting and celebrating the service and also to Fr Pat McGarvey who was in attendance .

It is a great support to the school and to the children to have members of both the Church of Ireland community and the Catholic community celebrating the school and Christmas together. We hope that our newly formed tradition will continue.

Well done to all of the children as well for the lovely singing and all of the readings and prayers. Maith sibh uilig.

Cinderella

The whole school performed “Cinderella ” for the school community this year. It was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The most common comment made afterwards was that it is amazing what you can do with a small amount of children!

The children were all fantastic and their parents and grandparents loved the show – the singing, the dancing and the acting.

The teachers were very proud of all of the children…and are looking forward to next years play already !

Thank you to all of the parents who helped in any way with the Christmas Hamper Draw this year, and for providing refreshments after the show.

Jack & the Beanstalk

The whole school travelled to the Millennium Forum to see Jack & the Beanstalk. The children really enjoyed the day…they also enjoyed it when Dame Trotte came down from the stage to talk to Múinteoir Aoife !!

Watching the Panto helped us all when we were preparing for our own mini-pants in the school “Cinderella ” !
