Happy New Year to everyone, especially to our pupils and parents who are teaching and learning from home. It is very different for us all but we are so grateful that we had a very fruitful, busy term one in both the senior and junior class.
When we had confirmation that our school would remain closed for the month of January, we sprang into action and delivered folders of books and activities to all our families. We also lent laptops to our families so that they would have enough devices at home and have access to our interactive Irish programme- ‘Bua na Cainte’. We have continued to use class dojo to upload activities and teach lessons. Our pupils use the class dojo platform to communicate with teachers and to upload work for assessment. We are delighted with all the work and lovely photos that we have received so far and so proud of our pupils and parents for what they are doing!
On Friday the 11th of December, the staff and pupils of Ballyheerin National school wore their Christmas jumpers. We are proud to gave all donations collected to the children’s hospital in Crumlin. We are thinking of all the children in hospital and their families at this very special time of year.
Halloween is always one of the highlights of our year in Ballyheerin NS. The children looked fabulous in their costumes and we thank all the Mammies and Daddies for taking time to put the costumes together. The junior class recited wonderful halloween songs and poems. The senior class recited poems, learnt a spooky dance and made a spooky halloween video. Everything was recorded and uploaded for our school community to view on class dojo.
The staff of Ballyheerin NS were absolutely delighted to welcome the children of Ballyheerin NS back to school after a long time apart! We are delighted to re-united with our pupils and we would like to gave an especially warm fĂĄilte to Sophie and Natasha, our two new junior infants!
Our school community have been hard at work, from home. Spring is a busy time on our farms so the teachers of Ballyheerin National school are delighted and the children were able to juggle their school-work and all their farming jobs. This week we had a farm themed week, where our reading and writing projects, music, Gaeilge art related to the farm. We also covered ‘Farm Safety’ in SPHE. The children worked so hard and we must thank their parents for all the great work which they uploaded to ‘Classdojo’ -our online learning platfrom. Muinteoir GrĂĄinne and MĂșinteoir Leanne really enjoyed sharing in the children’s learning experiences. Here is a selection of some of the wonderful which we have received.
There were alot of interesting and famous faces in our school yesterday. The children and staff dressed up as characters from their favourite books đ. All the children presented their favourite book to the whole school. The children even went book ‘speed dating’ where they had 3min to tell their ‘book date’ all about their favourite book before moving on to their next book date. We all picked up some great recommendations for books that we will read in the future!
Thank you to our very own Miss Honey (MĂșinteoir GrĂĄinne) for organising our annual book hunt. We hope that Miss Trunchbull (MĂșinteoir Leanne) won’t be staying on as principal of our school!

Ballyheerin NS is certainly full of interesting characters!
What a fantastic day we had today!đčThe children got to wear their jersey or tracksuits and were challenged to stay active for the whole day. We played games, we had races, we learned a new dance and we even went for a lovely walk. The children in the senior class made special Valentine’s buns for all which we really appreciated after all that activity. We would like to thank all the families for their kind donation which will be given directly to Manus Friel & family. We would like to thank Fidelma, MĂșinteoir Irene and OisĂn Heraghty for helping throughout the day and keeping us all motivated đïžââïžđ
The pupils of Ballyheerin NS are practicing yoga and meditation this term. Our school purchased new yoga mats in January and both the junior and senior class enjoy regular yoga and meditation sessions throughout the week. Both the Senior and Junior Class have learned and mastered many different yoga poses in the past few weeks and both classes have enjoyed the benefits of quiet meditation during a busy school day.
Spring has sprung in Ballyheerin! We thank MĂșinteoir GrĂĄinne for bringing in rushes for us all last Friday. Every child had the chance to make a lovely green cross for St. Brigid’s Day. We also thank the pupils in the senior class who helped the junior class to complete their crosses. âïž
Ballyheerin NS recently welcomed Steffi Otto to our school. Steffi taught the children about traditional crafts such as rope-making and basket weaving. She also introduced the children to many toys and games of the past. Thanks to Steffi, we got to see rushes being used in many interesting ways. We also made our own fabulous skipping ropes for the yard đ
